Dreamer - 2019

Exhibition FLyer

Overview

Preparing for the exhibition

Dreamer was a charitable art exhibition, organized in Novosibirsk, Russia. It's purpose was to raise awareness and support of underprivileged children in the city foster system. Additionally, the project goal was to raise money with 100% of all sales proceeds being donated to the city orphanage, Constellations.

Process

My student and I

Along with a school colleague, I spent several weeks teaching weekly English lessons at the orphange, "Constellations". After getting to know several of the residents, a larger meeting was held with 28 children ranging from 2 years old to 18 years old. Each child was interviewed about their likes, dislikes, daily activities, and most importantly, their hopes for the future. 28 watercolor portraits were subsequently made of the children, and featured in the city art gallery, "Art Spruce" along with their respective dreams written beside them. Displaying both the child's portrait and written dream served to prortray the overlying message of pursuing one's dreams, despite overwhelming life adversities and disadvantages. To this, I have the upmost admiration and gratitude for all our participants.
